Brace of BTs
Hi, bought a couple of BTs last year - see photos.
The concentric tone controls on the BT5 are sticky. Turning the treble turns the bass too. Is there a way to fix this ? Finally, could you tell me which exact model are the BTs, e.g. elite, etc Thanks |

There was NO Elite model name then. If you loosen the treble knob, lift it a hair and then re-tighten it, all should be good.
Also, these are old. Things can happen. No matter what you spend, you can not buy a Car that will last as long without needing service like a Smith bass. Also, the knobs on the Ebony 6 string are NOT from us. So, I do not know what you have in there as well. |

Thanks Ken.
Do you know what the woods are ? Macassar top & walnut core for BT6, flame maple & walnut core for the BT5 I think |

I think back then, the core woods would have been Mahogany. I would need to see them better on the sides to tell but dark mahogany in a picture might be hard to tell from lighter walnut. |

I adjusted the pot like you said - its works perfectly. Thanks.
Can you tell the woods from the serial numbers ? 89519 for the BT5. 6G94991EW for the BT6. |

Hi Ken,
Just coming back to you on the BT6. Can you tell from the cavity photo if the electronics are original? I assume not as it is quite different from the BT5, also the PCBs refer to MEC so perhaps the previous owner used a circuit from Warwick (which would also explain the knobs). Would you be able to supply an original BT circuit? I live in London so I am not able to send the bass to your workshop. Let me know what you advise. Thank you |

That is NOT a Smith circuit in any way, shape or form. Not our Jack and not our work, sorry. We still make that Circuit and they now have a DIP panel as well. |

Hi Ken, is it possible to order one?
If so, can I email you directly for price & payment? Thanks |
